Restaurant & Bar Design Awards 2014: Stylish Restaurants Use Quality Linen
Whilst the top awards of Best Bar and Best Restaurant went to those in France and China, there were many UK winners, too. The Best London Restaurant went to ‘Beagle’ - a smart yet minimal restaurant built into the arches below Hoxton Overground station; and Best Restaurant within a Hotel went to ‘Ametsa with Arzak Instruction’ in the Halkin Hotel, London.
What most interested us, is that although the concepts of these restaurants are different - with one offering laid back brunches, for example, and the other being a Michelin-starred Spanish restaurant - both seem to have realised the importance of using proper tablecloths and napkins. In the case of the latter, which seeks to offer a high-end experience to its diners, the luxurious setting is offset by tables covered in classic white tablecloths.
The award for Best Restaurant within a Retail Space went to One Canada Square in London’s Canary Wharf. Images of the restaurant show an impressive, high-ceilinged space, with a luxe combination of glass walls, mahogany surfaces and leather seating. Of course, what stood out to us was the inclusion of folded white napkins at every place setting – which can be an instant sign of quality for customers, whether they are eating in a restaurant or researching it online.
Whilst we could of course be considered biased, at Stalbridge we believe that good quality linen is an essential part of any decent bar or restaurant; and it seems that the UK’s most stylish restaurants would agree.
