Is Your Restaurant Ready For Christmas Day?
With so much pressure to create the perfect Christmas lunch, it seems that more and more people are choosing to forego the stress and eat out with their loved ones instead. In fact, The Telegraph has reported that a record number of people planning to do exactly that this year, with thousands of families leaving their homes and leaving the potato peeling to somebody else.
According to Bookatable and Lastminute – two of the leading online booking companies – there has been a major increase in bookings made for Christmas Day this year, and Bookatable in particular has seen a 150% increase since Christmas three years ago.
So what types of restaurants are people booking for that all-important festive lunch?
As you might expect, the most popular choice is those serving traditional British fare, with turkey and all the trimmings; but some 14% are branching out with American steak and grill establishments, and 7% are making a booking at a French restaurant. There's also an increase in the number of people opting for high-end choices, with one third of Lastminute's bookings being made at Michelin-star restaurants.
Of course, this corresponds with an overall increase in the number of people eating out – Barclaycard's recent report found that restaurant spending went up by 16% in the first quarter of 2014.
